How We Are Independent

While Unitarian Universalism is a religious belief system, we are not organized according to traditional church systems.  Each congregation, including UUCF, is an entity of its own, affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association by choice.  As such, dues are paid to the UUA on behalf of every member, though we often have a campaign to encourage members to pay their own dues as they are willing and able as a helpful support to our overall budget.

How We Are Democratic

As an independent entity, UUCF has bylaws under which we govern ourselves, congregational policy to help us interpret those bylaws for consistency, and bi-annual meetings in which all members elect our board, nominating, and endowment committee members, determine changes in bylaws, and determine our budget. In between those meetings, the elected board, led by a moderator, monitors the life of the church along with the help of our minister and faith development director. The executive board is also our personnel team, responsible for hiring and guiding the paid staff.

How We Are Structured

The entire church and its programming is organized into four areas, referred to as ministries: operations and finance, worship and faith development, social justice, and congregational life. Through these avenues, volunteering members and staff work together to manage all aspects of the church. The minister, in consultation with the worship committee, and the faith development director, in consultation with the faith development committee, are responsible for Sunday worship. All other programming and activities are the responsibility of our volunteering members and friends. Board liaisons communicate with the ministries and report back to the executive committee in open monthly meetings.
