Lessons of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre For UU’s Today

Oct 24, 2021

This service focuses on lessons from the 1921 Tulsa race massacre that may be relevant to how we as Unitarian Universalists live our values in 2021. This massacre was one of the single worst incidents of racial violence in U.S. history, and likely killed or injured hundreds of people (exact numbers are unknown). The service will explore questions such as the following. What was the broader historical context (ca.1910-1930) of the massacre at the time, given that this was not an isolated event during the period in which it occurred? What does this event represent in terms of the broader context (400+ years) of American history around race relations?
