Social Justice
Serving Flint, Genesee County, the State of Michigan, and the World
Social Justice and Outreach Ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Flint (UUCF) has a long history of direct giving, volunteerism, support for oppressed and minority group rights and issue advocacy. Many see this as our version of evangelism and mission work guided by reason, compassion, dialogue and tolerance. Whether sparked by member, denomination effort, clergy, secular partner or church board or committee initiative, all efforts must align with our principles and be non-partisan. We often take public stands on human rights’ issues such as the Flint Water Crisis, Immigration, Marriage Equality, and Black Lives Matter.
MI Faith in Action
MICHIGAN FAITH IN ACTION www.michfa.org, formerly FACT, is a congregationally based community organizing state affiliates of Faith in Action (formerly PICO). Organized to advance systemic change in housing, education, health care, public safety and housing; all faith traditions, racial and ethnic groups and secular partners are welcome.
Green Sanctuary Second Sunday Collections
The UUA provides the framework for congregations to begin specific projects and activities that lead to recognition as a Green Sanctuary. We continue to use safe products in our building and on our grounds, volunteer to clear litter from our roadway, continually improve our energy footprint and encourage members to do the same.

Welcoming Congregation Program
We are officially an LGBTQ+ Welcoming Congregation.
Originally certified in 1999, renewed in 2005, repeated and affirmed in 2010, and recertified once again in 2021.
The Welcoming Congregation Program is a completely volunteer program for congregations seeking to make extra sure that everyone feels welcome. Unitarian and Universalist congregations nationwide were among the first churches to celebrate gay congregants and perform weddings for LGBTQ
couples.
Second Sunday Collections
We want to make the world better, and when we can’t help otherwise, we send money! Our “Second Sunday Giving” program supports 12 agencies (most local, some national) that serve people in need. Please click here to learn about their work.

Other Opportunities
From picking up trash to getting out the vote, the opportunities at UUCF to help the community at large are endless. Please join our weekly e-update, follow us on Facebook or join us on Sunday to be kept in the loop to see what new activities you can be involved with as we act on our faith and values!
